Addressing Hunger In Our Neighbourhood
Food Bank Fridays
A few years ago a member of our congregation began an informal emergency food pantry in her apartment to meet the needs of her neighbours. CPCC joined her as the need grew, and we now partner with the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre to address people’s hunger in our neighbourhood. Every other Friday morning our volunteers pick up food boxes from the Food Bank to distribute to people in our community who do not have easy transportation downtown, along with supplementing milk and formula for families.
To sign up to receive food boxes, call the church office at 306-374-1713. We will need to get some personal information from you, as required by the Saskatoon Food Bank, including contact information, health card numbers for your household and birthdates. You must be on the list to receive a box! When you arrive at 9:30am to pick up your food, you can expect the coffee to be on, served with a yummy treat. People are welcome to enjoy some company for awhile before packing up their food.
Please note: if Food Bank Friday lands on a statutory holiday (like Canada Day or Good Friday), food pick-up will happen a day earlier as the Food Bank is closed on those holidays.
“...I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…” Matthew 25:35
Emergency Food Box
If you are in urgent need of food for yourself or your family, we also keep a supply of non-perishable food items available on site. Please contact the church office for more information.
How You Can Help
We are always accepting donations for the Emergency Food Box. Any non-perishable food item is welcome, but we are especially in need of these items:
baby formula/food
whole grain pastas and cereals
canned fruits and vegetables
canned meats and beans
100% fruit juice
hearty soups and stews
gluten-free foods
If you would like to make a financial donation toward our operating costs, please contact the office.
